Sri Lanka Visit

Sri Lanka, "Pearl" of the Indian Ocean, to the southwest of the Bay of  Bengal. It is separated from the Indian subcontinent by the  the  Gulf of  Mannar  and the Palk Strait.

The island  consists mostly of flat-to-rolling coastal plains, with   mountains  rising only in the south-central part. Amongst this is the   highest   point Pidurutalagala,  reaching 2,524 meters (8,281 ft) above   the sea level.

The cilmate of the Sri Lanka can be described as tropical and warm. Its   position between 5 and 10 north latitude endows the country with a   warm  climate moderate by ocean winds and considerable moisture. The   mean   temperature ranges from about 16 Centigrade in the Central  Highlands, where frost may occur for several days in the winter, to a   minimum of   approximately 33 Centigrade in other low-altitude areas. The average   yearly temperature ranges from 28 Centigrades to nearly    31   Centigrades.   Day and night temperatures may vary by 4  to Centigrades 7 Centigrades.

In ancient time, Sri Lanka was known by varity of names. During the   periad   of ancient Kings, Sri Lanka named as Heladiwa,  Lakdiwa etc. Also different   nationalties named as Taproban, Serendib, Ceilão and  Ceylon . In 1972,   the official name was changed to "free, Sovereign and   Independent   Republic   of Sri Lanka.

National dish of Sri Lankan’s is rice and curry, which consists of a mound of   rice and several small bowls of curried vegetables or occasionally fish &  meat.
